I just realized that I had the wrong date up on the blog under upcoming events. I had that there wasn't school on Monday, January 30. THERE IS SCHOOL THAT DAY! Sorry for any inconvenience.

crazy week

Funny that the last post was welcoming everybody back after a long break and now I'm writing a post excusing my absence.  I have not be in the classroom for the last two days because my son is sick. I'm hoping that these two days at home will make him feel better were he can return to school tomorrow and I can come back.

The students were AMAZING for the guest teacher yesterday and I'm already hearing great things about them today. I really appreciate them that they can still make the classroom work when I'm not their. They do have homework today because they did some activities with rhyming today. I hope that I will see everybody tomorrow : )

WELCOME BACK : )

 I hope that everybody had a relaxing break and a happy new year :  ) I can't believe that we are in the year 2012. It seems that 2011 flew by! So now it is back to business as usual.

Since it is a new year our classroom is in need of certain supplies.

 - Snack

  Snack is something that I give the students everyday. It's really hard for little minds to work when they are hungry. Our classroom is desperately low in this area. If you are willing and able please donate some snack to our classroom : )


-Glue Sticks:
 For literacy and math we do a lot of cutting and gluing. With that being said we are completely out of glue. If you are willing and able please donate glue sticks to our busy classroom.

Next week starts EXHIBITION WEEK! The students are very excited to show off what they are working on. Today I am sending home the exhibition outline so that your student can continue practicing their presentation. I am sending a hard copy home today in student's folders. These are the times that are available for your student to present their project to the class. Please number the top 3 times that work best for you and indicate your first choice.  Please email a time that works for you. I will do my best to accommodate everyone’s schedules. Please remember that a parent or family member must be in attendance for the presentation and the learning team meeting after.

         Please be sure of the times and dates you pick. There will not be days available for reschedules.

Afternoon Exhibition Celebration         

picture day is coming up

Picture day is on Wednesday, November 30. Students are allowed to wear free dress IF they are taking pictures. If you are not ordering pictures send your child in uniform.

Shinning Light

Melvin Henry was chosen for shinning light this week. He has been working really hard to do his kindergarten best! I'm very proud of him!

Reading Buddies

Yesterday we had special guest in our room. Mrs. Martin's 5th grade class came in to read a story. Each 5th grader was paired with a kindergardener and read a book to them that they brought. In some cases if they finished the story early the kindergardener was able to pick out a book of their choice. The students really enjoyed having a story read to them. So I think that we will be linking up again : )

EXHIBITION WORK DAY

Since today is Wednesday today is EXHIBITION WORK DAY! This is just a gentle reminder that every Wednesday I will not be sending home homework so that you and your child can work on their exhibition.


REMEMBER: Milestone #2 is due tomorrow. Students are to bring in 3 facts that they have learned about their topic.

Library Book

I understand that the library has been calling people about the over due books. I really do apologize but I forgot to turn the books back in. ( I'm really sorry ) I will return then tonight.  : ) If there is a late fee I will pay it.

Milestone 2

Milestone #2 (Three facts) is due on Thursday, November 17. Please remember that the facts should be kid friendly and something that your child ACTUALLY learned.  When students turn in a completed milestone they will be able to participate in FREE DRESS on Friday, November 18.

Nia was our class shinning light. She was chosen because she does a GREAT job being a leader for her friends!

 In the morning we were joined by Ms. Josephson's class to put on a "fashion" show to show off our cool costumes. The children really enjoyed telling us who they were and what their costume did.

One activity that students enjoyed is painting of a pumpkin.

Captain America even came to join the fun : )

The workers at Henry Ford were EXTREMELY nice and enjoyed having us there.

WEDNESDAY: EXHIBITION WORK DAY!

Wednesday from now on will be exhibition work day and no homework will be given. Please take this time to work with your child on their exhibition.  The next milestone; students will need to write down 3 facts that they learned about the topic chosen. Please contact me if you have any questions.

10 plus 1

In math today we discussed what the "teen" numbers are. We talked about it representing 10 plus some more. For example: 15 is 10 plus 5 more.

READING AND WRITING : )

Today in phonics students learned a new poem and was able to choose a favorite food and sound the out the word. Everybody did a FABULOUS job!!! Everybody was really proud of themselves!!!! GOOD JOB!!!
